The key aspects of the Leeds Arena Concept are analysed in turn below.
THE EVENT EXPERIENCE
The key concept is to provide an unparalleled 'event experience' for the customer. It is not just the provision of good quality shows that is required, but also the finer details from the moment one arrives to the moment one leaves. These details ensure the customer leaves with the feeling that 'nothing beats being there', and include:
- Dressing the concourse in the theme of the show;
- Ensuring that the food and beverage offering is of a high quality and, where possible, co-ordinated with the event to be consistent with the theme. This generates more opportunities for innovative arrangements with suppliers;
- Ensuring that merchandise is freely available, convenient to buy and promoted within the arena;
- This environment encourages customers to arrive early, leave late and enjoy the numerous retail opportunities on offer. The arena will have catering outlets and bars to meet demand from visitors throughout the opening times.
SMART TECHNOLOGY
The Leeds Arena will be one of only a handful of venues in the world that will use state of the art smart systems including interactive seat technology (Smartseats), which will allow the customer to become more involved with the event. Customers will be able to access from their seat a range of products and services that will ensure enhanced enjoyment and provide incentives for the whole family to arrive early, stay longer and leave later.
Each Smartseat within the arena will allow the user to interact with the event and communicate with other facilities in the arena complex, for example to order food and beverage. Smartseats will be installed for all clubseats. Executive boxes will be installed with interactive 'kiosks' which offer similar services.
Key features of the Smartseat include:
Upholstered to provide a high level of comfort;
- Food tray and cup holder;
- Personal video screen, either in seat back or deployments arm;
- Touch screen or hand control;
- Merchandise, food and beverage ordered from and delivered to the seat; and
- Card reader to accept both credit cards and smart (chip) cards.
- The screens will also have software products including:
- Selected camera angles;
- Match and player statistics;
- Box office;
- Pre event games;
- News and current affairs information;
- Public transport and hotel information;
- Betting facilities; and
- Voting facilities.
- The Corporate Offering
Leeds Arena firmly believes that the current level of corporate hospitality at arenas in the UK is severely lacking and that there is the latent demand and enthusiasm for a quality offering if presented. This is evidenced through the experience of other arenas in USA and Europe.
The key aspects of the Leeds Arena Corporate offering will include:
A dedicated VIP entrance with "meet and greet" facilities;
- Dedicated parking spaces;
- Exclusive access to the club lounge before, after and during events;
- Dedicated VIP concourse linking club lounge to boxes;
- A food and beverage offering of the highest quality; and
- Smartseats or Smartseat technology available through kiosks.
- It is expected that box holders will use their boxes on a continuous basis, for example for meetings, interviews and conferences outside or before event schedules.
DESIGN
The arena will incorporate:
- Sophisticated hi-fidelity acoustics engineering and sound control, suitable for both sport and other events, including concerts.
- Roofing structure capable of carrying a gondola scoreboard and show loads, with a number of different staging capabilities.
- State-of-the-art, spacious concourses, concessions, washrooms, life support systems, disabled provisions and other customer services for the public.
- Sports teams and management offices, together with associated service areas.
- High technology components, durable finishes, fire safety and optimum interior air quality.
CATERING
The Leeds Arena will have catering outlets, bars and hospitality facilities to meet demand from visitors throughout the opening times.
The catering is arranged to meet demand at three levels. High quality snacks and fast food at the General Concourse Levels and specific restaurants; upmarket service to Club seats and the Club Lounge areas; and high quality dining in Corporate Boxes.
